The Mission
I wrote this book because many safety professionals are thrown into the role without the necessary training, guidance, or mentorship to succeed. Left to figure it out, they end up imitating what they think a safety professional should be: the clipboard cop, the enforcer, the one nobody wants to see walking onto the jobsite.
I’m here to challenge that.
I’m here to challenge the person who was put in a safety role without the tools to lead. I’m here to challenge the one who thinks safety is about authority and power. And I’m here to challenge teams who think the answer to slipping performance is just another program, another acronym, or more surveillance.
Because safety isn’t about policing rules, it’s about leadership. The kind of leadership that earns trust, garners respect, and creates buy-in, ownership, and accountability. Real safety leaders don’t just enforce compliance; they inspire people to do the right thing because they believe in it.
That’s my mission. To help restore credibility and respect to the safety profession by showing safety professionals and managers what authentic leadership looks like in the field. Because when safety is led well, it doesn’t matter which program you run; it will be run well.
